The Artist

Welcome to my Dreamscapes.

Canvas painting inside of a rustic art studio“My least structured part of the process is creating the background. I love getting messy with paints and different materials to cover the canvas, and I then let the background textures decide what the painting is going to be."

Tara Riley spent most of her cloud gazing days living in central Connecticut, but always longed for the mountains. In 2021, she and her husband, along with their three children, moved to Southern Vermont to run a country store in Jamaica. Throughout life she had always exercised a creative outlet- poetry, drawing and painting, but it was the move to Vermont that afforded her the space and inspiration to focus her work on mixed media landscapes. Her dream-like paintings use acrylics, plasters, gold leaf and natural materials to invoke abstract representations of the mountainous world around her. Each piece is as unique in its form as the experiences and energies that inspire them.

“Though none of my works are direct representations of my  surroundings, they are born of my time in the woods. The clouds, the colors, the harmonies and tensions that exist in the natural world are what I feel when I sit at a blank canvas."
